We make all of ours with cat5e or cat6. If you're bending them so much that you are worried about solid vs. stranded you've probably botched the compliance rating of the cable in the first place. I like all my cables to be the proper length, an extra few inches/foot really irritates me. Too bad we can't reliably field terminate HDMI.
