Hopefully this is ontopic, even though it's a network-related inquiry!

I need to replenish our stock of 1s, 3s, 10s-15 footers ... thought I'd check to see what other CIs are using with good results, application is for Gb network. We've found Cables2go (bought right off Amazon, of all places) to be cheap and surprisingly reliable, but thought I'd see what else is out there that's worth consisdering.

I know Ethereal had some great prices on Cat5e years back, anyone have any experience with their Cat5e/6 product?

lots of colors and lengths to choose from. Strain relief, nice cables. Never have an issue with em.

Yeah, the only thing I get from them is the patch cables and some RJ45 couplers.

with stranded cable, and as cheap as they are these days (e.g., 3' for <$2!)? So do you make them out of solid copper wire (I'd be afraid it'd be hard to bend/manipulate easily) or stranded (a total pita to terminate)?

We've been using mono price cat6, but would use snap if they had cat6 patch cables. The only thing with the monproce isnthatnyou can't slide down the protector jacket for the clip and sometimes in like a 48 port switch, unplugging a can be a bit of a pain. Luckily we rarely have to disconnect.

I really don't understand this statement. Too hard to bend or manipulate? Are you not terminating long runs in the field?

Sure it may cost more for making them but then they are cut to length. No different than every other cable we make. Takes maybe 5 minutes to make a cable and you test it immediately. No shipping either. I'm not saying I make all of my jumpers but to be surprised that someone might is a little shocking to me. Am I missing something.

We make all of ours with cat5e or cat6. If you're bending them so much that you are worried about solid vs. stranded you've probably botched the compliance rating of the cable in the first place. I like all my cables to be the proper length, an extra few inches/foot really irritates me. Too bad we can't reliably field terminate HDMI.

Snap or make my own. Having premade cables is a HUGE timesaver most of the time. Open the bag and plug it in, instead of grabbing cable, RJ's, strippers, scissors, crimpers, etc. Just depends what you're working on.

Every once in a while I'll have to connect patch panels using really short cables. No way I'd spend my labor hour making two foot or shorter cables. I'll buy up to six feet, unless the cable must be a particular length. Longer than that, yeah, make it.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
