One simple thing to possibly look into is just trying to move the emitter itself to a new location and seeing if that helps. If memory serves me, a few years back I programmed a RTI T3 to control a Krell preamp and i was not able to place the emitter directly over the "eye" due to iffy success. I moved the emitter about a 1/2 inch above it and had better luck.
