I just like it better but I don't know that it is any better. I find it even less intrusive than ESET. You literally just don't know it's there. And I prefer the interface. With eset now and then I would get little irritating warning messages like "warning your computer is in danger and needs to be updated". Even though the windows updates had just become available and or even if I had applied them. Nothing major, but irritants. So far Norton just sits there doing its job.
Re: your question I have no idea if it does a better job of virus protection, from what I read it is near the top, but of course every anti-virus manufacturer claims they have the best virus catching ability and they all have some study to prove it...
