Tony's Home Theater System Setup
From: Tony
For: HTM MX-700 (System)
Activity-based remote control configuration. Main Page #1 contains the activities. Each activity's pages contain a mix of DVD/DVR/Projector/Receiver commands that make sense for that activity. Main Page #2 contains the actual devices, and his hidden, although devices are accessible by pressing one of the unused LCD buttons on Main Page #1. Layout is extremely spouse/kids friendly. Amp is not a real device. Receiver powers on the external amp via a 12V trigger that is enabled using the Receiver's Zone 2 function. Receiver pages were completely filled, so I created an "Amp" device to mimic the Zone 2 On/Off function. A Utils LCD button on Main Page #2 contains pages for short cuts to actual devices, as well as Power Off confirmation messages. Because I have a front projector in my system, I use these confirmation messages to avoid inadvertent power offs. Discrete Power On/Off for all devices.

Xerxes Labrador's MX-700
From: Xerxes Labrador
For: HTM MX-700 (System)
This is a straighforward configuration having the activity macros on the first page and model names for the second page. Not so savy users need only to go to the first page and select the activity they want. The second page was intentionally meant for savy users when they need to individually jump to specific devices. Discrete power ON/OFF codes have been provided for most devices and macro power ON/OFF trick for cable box. I am still searching for discretes for the VCOD and I cannot use macro trick because it has a hard drive system. Any activity macro when selected will attemp to power off all devices and power on the selected device for the desired activity. Receiver input signal selection as well as monitor video type selection will also be handled by the macro. Since I am using Comcast with a 63 inch screen, I find it more convenient to use the cable menu or channel guide and then navigate through it because all channel and program information is browsable. My FAV button will just envoke the cable menu.

BNC-RCA-RG59's MX-900
From: BNC-RCA-RG59
For: URC MX-900
I made this remote for an old couple that wanted to be able to record 25 shows a week. They used to have 5 VCR's around the house in different rooms. Now they have one Dual Tuner HD Tivo. After a week of use the only complaint was that they wanted to record two shows at the same time while watching a third (Monday night football). So I connected another HD DVR Comcast box from another room into the mix using RF and like the feature to pause live tv any time and be able to fast foward through the commercials. Still looking for the new 30sec skip for the 3 series TIVO if anyone is holding.

Simple System for Mom
From: Jim Hafers
For: URC MX-900
After much research, and a great tip from Mike Lang, I got the Elite screen working. I happened to have an old One-for-all remote and learned the codes to that first, then to the MX-900. Might work on some other Elite screens. The remote is set up with simplicity in mind, for my mother and her boyfriend. Bulletproof, with discretes and RF. Hope this helps some people!

Mark Giles' Main Remote

Complete system set up. I was able to find descretes for just about everything I need. I have quick access to sound and lighting for on-the-fly adjustments from any activity. Mitch Wayman's MX-900 System Setup
From: Mitch Wayman
For: URC MX-900
Lots of discretes and macros. I did extensive testing and troubleshooting to make sure it all works as flawlessly as possible. I prefer having a "Main" page vice the activity based layout - that's why the "Watch" and "Listen" pages are identical. One less step to get to where you want to be. If my wife can use it anyone can use it! Feel free to post your questions, comments, and suggestions.

Todd Scott's MX-900 System File
From: Todd Scott
For: URC MX-900
This system file was setup for ease of use using the WATCH and LISTEN buttons as well as having quick access with PICTURE and SOUND macros on the LCD for commonly used controls like aspect ratio and sound modes. My home theater is fairly simple consisting of only 4 devices plus the light dimmer, but the programming is a little more complex to make the system so easy to use that my wife and kids have no trouble working it. Some features of my system file:

PICTURE and SOUND macros on the main screen for each activity for quick adjustments to the TV or AV receiver.

Page 2 of the WATCH button has all the devices listed. Press and hold feature used to prevent accidental access to device settings.

Page 3 is a special hidden page for virtual devices with macros for favourite channels and DVD selection and TV power for when listening to music.

The 400 DVD mega changer is conatrolled by a virtual device macro that is split in two. The BEGIN macro prepares the DVD player for a numeric entry of slot number (DVD Profiler is used to print a listing) with the remote. Then the user completes the selection process by pressing END which sends another macro to load the DVD and play it. This macro also returns to the previous screen to select another DVD. This virtual device is also used for the selection of audio CD's under the LISTEN button.

Favourite channels and satellite radio station macro pages. All devices have discrete ON/OFF codes so nothing gets out of sync and RF control just makes this system solid.
Devices: DSS/DVR: Bell ExpressVu 5900, DVD: Sony DVP-CX995V, Lighting: Lutron Maestro, Receiver: Technics SA-DX1050, Television: Panasonic TH-50PX60U
