Standard Remote (not Roku remote) needed for TCL 65S435 4k Smart Roku TV

The TV came with a Roku remote. However, I'm planning on stopping cable and installing an antenna. Therefore, I'll lose the cable box remote. I would like a remote that can power on/off the tv as well as control the volume AND have the number buttons, etc. All I have is the TV so it does not have to control any other equipment.

What remote would you recommend? Since I have Spectrum remotes, can they be reprogrammed to control all of the TV and the number buttons work for the TV instead of the cable box?

Roku tv's use two very old code sets, each has number commands available, but are still useless on roku tv's, reason? Roku tv's don't accept number commands on purpose. You will see the number show on screen but the tv never changes to them.

So, why is not accepting number commands done on purpose?

Because when the roku tv's were first released there was no need for number keypad. No service allowed direct entry of tv channels. Plus there is no space on a roku remote for ten key pad. Roku only supplies the UI for roku tv's, if the tv manufacturer wanted they could have furnish there own shaped remote, but they went with roku standard remote, which is too small. Does apple tv have ten key pad? Fire tv's don't have one either. Neither does chromecast. If one would i'm sure they all would have newer remotes with ten key pad.

I was hoping they had included their IR code sets. Seems like it wouldn't be too much trouble. Thanks for the explanation.

And I had found this remote that says it is compatible with TCL TV's and is optimized for smart TV's so hoping it would work. Have to order from the UK though as I couldn't find it in the US.

Now I guess there isn't a reason to proceed.

Something must have changed, I just took out the Inteset 422-3 remote, made by UEI the makers of One-for-all remotes. Entered code 12049, while my TCL 43" Roku tv was on LiveTv, I have no antenna but there are bunch of free channels. The 10 key pad now works, it put up the same blue numbers as always but now it actually switches to that channel!!

You don't need to send to UK for a remote, look for the Inteset remote on amazon:

Or ebay for the One-For-All urc-7880:

Edmund - Thanks for the info!! Where did you find out about the 12049 codeset?

I really would like just a 1 device remote like the URC7115 for simplicity since there isn't any other devices attached to the TV. Any suggestions?

EDIT: I just looked up the Inteset Remote and there appears to be a code 14398 labeled as Roku TV-TCL. This # is also listed under TCL. Looking under TCL, there isn't a 12049 code listed but I guess if it works who cares.

Yes code 14398 is the TCL Roku tv code, it will give access to advanced codes for individual commands like Disney+ or Hdmi 1. My A device on Inteset has 14398 programmed to it, but the ten key pad covered up be taught commands and advanced codes. I just programmed 12049 in to be sure I was using a code with 10 key pad preset. Reason I know the codes I own Roku tv's and search out what works or not. I'm Streaming expert on Roku Community, roku just sent me gift box for Christmas with Roku Stick 4K+ 3821, and chocolates.

Be careful of EU remotes, they have alot of brands not available here, so might be stuff with useless codes.

The remote I linked to above is a One For All Evolve URC7115 so it should be a good brand. :)

Based on your test that a number keypad will work on TCL Roku TV, I decided to take a chance on buying one. About $25 due to tax and free shipping from here:   [Link: shop4megastore.com]

If it doesn't work, I'm not out much.  I won't be able to try it until April when I go back.   Wish I could find that remote here.

Well, I received the One For all URC7115 today. 14 days to make the trip from UK.

Looks very nice.  Can't wait to try it out but it looks like it might be May now before I can get back to test it.

Wanted to give an update. It turns out that we bought an 85" 8K TV (Samsung) and sold the 65" 4K TCL so I never got a chance to try the URC7115 remote.
