I have an Audio Refinement Complete Integrated Amplifier and I am looking for a universal remote to operate the volume control. Basically, the original was a YBA remote. I tried my Harmony 550, but nothing works. Even the component in their database (Pre 5) doesn't work. In fact, the factory remote is to work with all the Audio Refinement products.

The only Remote I have found thus far with a YBA code is a Russound. The code is 31502. Anyone familiar with this?

No guarantee, but that code looks like a  UEI code.  The Lookup Tool says Audio 1502 is intended for use with a YBA Amplifier.  1502 shoots the RC5 IR protocol, device 7.

However, we have here a CCF file for a Complete Tuner.  This shoots RC5, device 20. I used IrScrutinizer to import the CCF file.

If you have a Comcast or Atlas remote (or other cable company remotes if made by UEI), or a OneForAll, I can probably suggest a setup code and EFCs to manually program the remote.  Of course, it isn't clear if the Integrated amplifier uses either of these device numbers, but it is highly likely that it uses RC5.  If you want to buy a remote, the RCA RCRP05B (Walmart) can also be manually programmed.

But we don't know for sure which device number to use, or the function numbers. You could ask Audio refinement for a list of RC5 codes for the Integrated amp.

Hi 3FG,

The Russound remote was delivered yesterday and I tried using the remote code for YBA (31502) but it did not work. I do have a Comcast remote (M1067) but I have not idea what you are talking about when you mention EFC's and such. All this is totally new to me and I am lost in all the "tech lingo."

I did get a response from YBA in France... they can supply me a new original remote for 100 EURO shipped or $137US. That's a little steep for me to consider right now as I feel there should be a universal remote to handle the job. Honestly, all I am looking for is a remote to control the volume.

In my searching, I did find one other YBA code for a universal remote, but I misplaced the web address. The code was 3-digits and began with a 4... perhaps 487 or something to that effect. Btw, I also tried the "learn" feature on the Russound to try to find the proper code on the AR, but nothing happened.

If there are some options you can guide me through, I would be more than happy to speak with you. If you wish to speak on the phone, I can email my cell.

Regards,
Brent

Let's try Device 20, which is used by the Tuner in the Complete series.

Assign Setup Code 21781 to the AUX button.  To test any of these EFCs, tap Setup (don't hold it) and enter the 5 digit EFC.  When you enter the 5th digit, the IR signal will be sent to the amplifier.

vol up      37497
vol down  37501
mute       37389
Power      37385

If these work, assign them semi-permanently by using the 994 Command.

Hi 3FG,

I tried Device 20 last night, but no luck. I used the Comcast (M1067) remote. Below is a detailed description of what I did--just to make certain I tried this correctly.

1. Pushed AUX, then held SETUP until it AUX blinked twice.
2. Typed in code 21781, AUX blinked twice after completed.
(3. Pushed volume + and - just to see if anything would happen. Nothing.)
4. Pushed SETUP, then entered 37497. AUX blinked twice.
5. Pushed Volume +, nothing happened.
6. Pushed SETUP, then entered 37501. AUX blinked twice.
7. Pushed Volume -, nothing happened.
8. Repeated same with Mute and Power, nothing happened.

When YBA responded to my request regarding a remote, they send me a pic of the remote that is available. I noticed at the top it has three buttons, one for each device (CD, AMP, TUNER). Would this mean that there is a different code for each device? However, I would think though the Volume control would work at all times, regardless of which device button has been pushed. For example, If I wanted to go to the next track on the CD player, I would push "CD" on the remote, then go to the next track. I should still then be able to adjust the volume without having to push the "AMP" button first. Right? The Complete Tuner commands were the only one in the Logitech database too when I tried with my 550 remote. I could tell since the screen on the remote only showed tuner functions.

So what's our next step? Is there another device code w/ EFC's to try?
BTW... that other remote I was inquiring about with the 3-digit YBA code is a URC MX-350. The code is 485. So of all the universal remotes I've researched, the only three that I have found with ANY YBA codes at all are: Russound A-LRC2, Escient Vision and the MX-350. The MX is the only one with a 485 code though, the other two were the same with 31502.

Sincerely,
Brent

When testing an EFC, the command will fire after the fifth digit, there is no reason to press the VOL keys because you haven't yet mapped EFC to a key.

To map an EFC to a key:

1. aux
2. press and hold SETUP for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 9 4
4. tap SETUP for one blink
5. enter 5 digit EFC
6. pick a key

From Post #5:
4. Pushed SETUP, then entered 37497. AUX blinked twice.
While testing EFCs, the remote should give one short flash after pressing each digit.  I don't see how the remote could have blinked twice.

We don't expect the volume buttons on setup code 21781 to control your equipment.  It will send device 0.

I have in the meantime found a source for the amplifier IR codes.  As expected they are RC5 device 20.  However, Mute is different from what I posted above.

vol up    37497
vol down    37501
mute    37453
power    37389
Amp    37397

Amp is apparently the signal which places the Complete system into a mode to accept Amplifier signals.  So you may need to send that before any of the others.

I got it to work! Thank you so much 3FG... and edmund! (Apparently, I wasn't entering the EFC's correctly).

One question though to clarify: Is the AMP 37397 an EFC or an Assign Setup Code?

Reason I ask is... When I entered the EFC's (vol+, vol-, mute, power) I cannot remember if I used the 37397 as a setup code for AUX or if 21781 is still in there. At this point, I'm afraid to try anything more without knowing for sure--since all the controls work.

I just want to make sure what setup code I am to use for the AUX button.

Thanks again for all the help and guidance.

37397?  Do you mean 37497?  That's an EFC.  The remote wouldn't accept that as a setup code because it isn't in a valid range.

Anyway, use the 990 Command to blink back the setup code.  Then you'll know for sure.

37397 is what I meant, but you answered my question anyway regarding the setup code. Thanks again.

I was confused as I don't know what EFC 37397 (Amp) is used for?

Sincerely,
Brent

All is good. Thanks again 3FG... and edmund!

With a one-for-all brand remote (or most any remote made by UEI), you can start with your marantz code and find all other commands by trial and error. There are usually only 256 possible codes for all commands. So once you get the remote and find the partially working marantz code, try all 256 "magic" codes to find all the other missing functions. Post back if you find such a remote and we can tell you if it will work and give more detailed steps.

Logitech Harmony won't work with the code search (00000-00255). But it might work with your device anyway. Go to their website and look up your model to see if it's compatible. One-for-all is the brand that can do the code search. All you do is enter each number and see how the receiver responds.
