I have looked into this more than once. Have had CAIP's look into it and have talked directly with Sonos also.Apparently Sonos doesnt want to play with anybody. Closest I could come to internet streaming services hardware was a Sqeezebox module by Controlworks, but the Squeezebox hardware is a little flaky according to posts. Its too bad, I find Sonos to be a great product, but maybe a little greedy with their SDK's. Fear not though, there's plenty of overpriced media servers that integrate in a so-so fashion and dont offer Rhapsody, Pandora,LastFM, etc.

Sonos ZonePlayers implement the DLNA protocols and act as a DMR (digital media renderer). So for example in Windows 7 you can right click on an MP3 file and select "Play To Sonos" without Windows knowing anythign about Sonos. It just discovers it as a DMR and can talk to it via DLNA.

I've successfully controlled my Sonos zones from URC remote controls and some custom software running on a PC. I used the open source Sonos.NET library which made it pretty easy. There's plenty of DLNA libraries out there but you'll need to do some programming.

Yeah my remote will work with it using the DLNA option.

Unfortunately the Sonos has such poor support that it is just not salable to an end user. It is fine for me but I would not give it to a paying customer. Also the idea of more software running on a PC is just not very professional.

I was hoping to try use some HTTP or TCP control.

Check out sprules.com. I havent implemented this module, but he's on V2 of the module. If you get it let us know what you think.
