Hi all,
I'm new to X10 and I know nothing.. I have set up a HT and would now like to be able to dim and turn off the lighting in the room using my MX600. What do I need? The current lighting is controlled by an in wall dimmer and I would like to have an inwall controller too. TRhanks for any help!

Oh, ya, what I would really like to be able to do, is have something that when I press play for the DVD player on the MX600, the lights will automatically dim and if I press stop, go back on. In fact, I do not want separate buttons for x10 control but have something that automatically responds to a command from the remote.

Thanks again!

I just did the same thing with my HT! Give Bill at homeautomationnet.com a call; he'll hook you up with a starter kit to get you going. Once you have the X10 dimmer switch installed, the IR to X10 transceiver placed somewhere near your equipment rack, and program the light switch (all included in the kit);just program a macro on the DVD Play/Stop button to dim/brighten the light(s).

Excuse me if I am mistaken, but it is not possible to program a macro on the play button of the mx500/600. Correct? If not then the starter kit won't work.

Tom,
You're right! If you can't program a macro on the PLAY button then you won't be able to do what you want (press PLAY to start the movie and dim the light at the same time). I have an OFA remote and am able to program macros on any key via the JP1 cable.

Not an elegant solution but you can program "Start/Stop Movie" macros on the MX600 to operate the DVD and control the lights. Just use the normal PLAY/STOP buttons during the day and the macros for night viewing.
