I have a wall switch that installed. The switch responds when you manually touch it. When I use the IR543 unit the switch will turn on but will not react to other functions(Off, all off, dim)
Where do I go from here?
Question 2 I removed the ground wire from the original switch. Where do I ground now? Do wall switches not require a ground?

I've been there and it sounds like an interference problem. Have you filtered stuff like computers, stereo gear, TV? Take a look here for the AF100 & 120 filters: [Link: homeautomationnet.com] Carter

Did you make sure your wall switch and IR543 are set to the same housecode? I would start there first.

Yes, certain electronics will interfere. Some TV's will interfere bigtime! I've lucked out here, but maybe you should look at filters for your setup.

Try unplugging your stereo gear/TV/computer and see if it works.
I unplugged my stereo gear and TV and my X10 stuff started working but not every time. As soon as I unplugged my computer my X10 was up and running. I decided to buy filters for all my gear just in case and haven't had a problem since.
Try unplugging them one at a time to narrow down the offending gear. You have to unplug them and not just turn them off.
The cheaper X10 switches don't have a ground wire. I've always wondered if that's a problem but I don't know. Maybe some of our resident electricians on this forum could shed some light on that for us.

Carter Thanks for the heads up on the ground wire. I will create a new post for the ground wire question. I will try to unplug my devices and see who's the culprit.

Keep in mind that cheaper switch's are just that, meaning they are more prone to problems like your having, if all else fail's you might want to consider a switchlinc or pcs brand switch

So here is the thing.
I got lamp modules and plugged them in. They worked without problems. Then I tested the kitchen light that was having problems......It worked.
Did adding the lamp modules "boost" the X-10 signal in the line?
I also added a lamp module to an outlet above my stove that powers a halogen light bar. It did not respond. Strange goings on with my system so far.

I don't think it's possible for a lamp module to boost signal, in-fact generally the more x-10 items added the more problems that occur. Perhaps somethings changed since the problems, has something been unplugged or relocate? even some other seemingly unrelated device being turned on or off can make the difference.
When I first started my system with just a few device's all worked great, after adding more I started having the same kinds of problems that you are experiencing. I filtered all tv's, computers, and the like, I also added in a CR234 coupler/repeater. Since this I am up to over 30 x-10 devices and have perfect results.

I will finish installing all other components this weekend. I have another 3 wall switches to put in. I will also look into the RF100 as suggested. Hopefully this project will work itself out.

you'll need an appliance module for the halogen, dimming not possible on flourescent and halogen type bulbs...
am I right in thinking this?? (this is what I have done in the past)
