I have 4 table lamps in my media room, only 1 wall switch for 1 lamp. I have 2 small side lamps currently on the same code so that they both turn on and dim together. I use these 2 lights for watching movies They are using 40w bulbs that I dim from the remote.
Light 1 wall switched outlet
light 2 and 3 x-10 same code on sides of room same depth as tvs
light 3 in the corner, x-10 but hardly used

I will be putting a lights on both ends of my sofa, I could run them
together off the wall switch and replace with x-10 switch. I like the idea
of having them separate though if the wife wants to read or something. Guess
I would need 1 light switch and 1 module or the big 4 outlet scene module. I
have 4 very old Magnavox modules and the base from a security system, guess
it works.
the other 2 small lamps will be ok on the same code I think, keeps it
simpler. Thoughts I had were using [Link: smarthome.com] for
the wall switch location or something similar, using a
[Link: smarthome.com] for the outlet behind the sofa, and
maybe 2 regular light modules for the side lighting.
Seems like a hacked together system so I'm looking for advice.

Also I have a light switch for my fireplace, I would like to x-10 that too
or IR it, have a great line of site to it. I would prefer IR so that I could
know that the ghosts would not touch that one. Once in a great while, every
few months a light or 2 will come on. Guess I wouldn't want to come home and
see my fireplace has been running all day.

I would be controlling this from a 543? ir/rf if that seems to be the one to
go with but open to suggestions.
I already have a pronto tsu2000 and the 16 channel x-10 rf remote
Any other ideas how I could do this, scenes would be great, but only at a
reasonable price, $250 or so max preferably under $150. I hope this all
makes sense.

Equipment I have for x-10
4 magnavox lamp modules, 1 or 2 appliance modules
Magnavox security base (would pitch in the trash)
16 channel x-10 remote
Desire to run all lighting and fireplace from my Pronto

Thanks very much for the time,
Joel

I tried a x-10 button cheap wall switch for the switched oultet to run two table lamps and the thing wont turn on, turns off, all off, bright and dim, but no on, grr

thanks again

I must ask......how the hell do you know???

Seriously, though, if you're going to replace the wall switch with a mult-controller, why not just use lamp modules all around? You'll need to rewire the switched receptacle to always on anyway, just by connecting the two switch wires together.

A non-suppressing strip is fine for several modules, especially the kind spaced for wall-wart power supplies.

Lary,
I must be slow this morning, i have the button x-10 wall switch installed now using the security base as a tranceiver. It will not respond for some reason to all on or on. Bright/dim/all off/off work just fine.
I could use a lamp module for each of the 2 sofa lamps, that would leave just the controler to purchase.

Is it acceptable to wire nut the 2 wires from the light switch together for the outlet to be always on ??

Thanks for the time
Joel

Joel, a wired controller or switch should not need a security base or any other receiver to work. If it is in electrical contact with your home's wiring, the signals should be reaching the modules. The RF base is only necessary for wireless controllers.

Yes, wirenutting the switch wires together is fine.

Ahh, i see, the switch works fine pressing the button. It wont however turn on from the base unit or the rf wireless remote. If i use a lamp module, it will work just fine by remote. i tried using a,b,c,d 1-16 then i went to e,f,g... all lights on. Could i have missed one that worked ?? Also i moved the base unit all around plugging it into different outlets, made no change.

will the [Link: worthdist.com]
HCC4A-10 work with controling x-10(magnavox) lamp modules or should i consider other options.
If i spend the money on the pcs outlet, i am still having to use regular x-10 modules for the other 2 lamps.

Thanks again for the time
Joel
