Hi Gang
I turned my 220V dryer on the other day as a test and a couple of switches that DIDN'T respond before, did respond. I guess I need to couple the phases.
The fact that it works, does this mean I need just a straight coupler ( passive) or does it need to be amplified/repeated as well?
How does one make this distinction between the two options?
There is quite a price difference. 2000 sq. ft. home
Is the ACT CP000 or the amplified CR230 the way to go?
Any help would be appreciated, Glenn

A 2000 sq ft home is about the break point for going from passive to active so it's really a toss up. The CR230 is an excellent coupler, though, so I'd be really temped to go with it if you can.

Just be carefull of the CR230, it is not UL approved. When I had a CR230 it did not perform as well as my home made passive one.

Geez
That kind of scares me if it isn't UL approved. I'm in Canada and I guess it isn't CSA approved either. If my house burns to the ground would insurance cover that if this thing is at fault? Everyone has been raving about this unit in here and I just ordered one! Maybe it isn't to late to cancel!?

If it's not UL/CSA approved you have no idea if it was designed to any safety standards or not. I for one would never install a device that was not approved. One of the big reasons (besides it didn't work) I sent my CR230 back to the vendor is that it does not have UL/CSA approval

How did you get UL approval on your home made coupler?

It was built using all UL approved components, and reviewed by a professional engineer so even though I did not get it UL listed I know it is safe. I would never sell it or even suggest using the design to anyone with out getting approval. I have no idea as to what standards the CR230 was built.

The CR230 is in the process of UL approval. Both phase are on fuses and there has NEVER been any incident involving a CR230, I don’t see with the low current fuse there could be. Westie's CR230 was the first one we sold ever that had a problem and it was a very unusual problem. Normally we get nothing but praise on how these perform. I had another HCA user that was having problems switch the other day, he could not believe how well his system performed after the swap. Bill www.homeautomationnet.com

For you folks on tight budgets, I just got a bunch of surplus Leviton 6201, coupler repeaters (these are there old expensive model that worked) and passive couplers, Leviton 6299 that are selling cheap in our clearance section. I am not going to rip out my CR230, but these are a good deal for you that have nothing; just wanted to give the forum participants a heads up [Link: homeautomationnet.com].
