OK I have gotten a bit further with IR (thanks to the info from my prior post -- I love this forum) but I am still having problems. My problem is getting the Ocelot to recognize IR consistently but I have more detail this time.
My setup has the Ocelot getting IR from a mini-emitter attached in front of the Ocelot IR port. The Ocelot lives in an equipment rack with the rest of my 'don't need to touch' HT gear.
The IR comes from a Xantech receiver attached to a Xantech amplified IR block 791-44. A have lots of stuff attached in the same way and all the other equipment is working solidly, so I believe the IR path is good.
I need to use a ProntoPro to control the Ocelot, but I can use any codes which might work well. I will have a total of about 15 codes I'll need it to respond to.
Based on info from this forum I have experiemented with different codes and different Ocelot IR frequencies. I have also tried 'learning' the Ocelot by aming the remote directly into it's port and through the rxer, hub, emitter path.
I still can only get about 60% recognition.
I have found Sony VCR codes worked pretty well. If I use a sony remote to learn directly to the Ocelot, then use the same sony remote to control through the rxer, hub, emitter I can get about 90%. It does not seem to be distance related. However when using the pronto I drop back to 60% or so. I am using the Proto for everything else without reliability issues.
Questions:
Is there an optimum set of IR codes to learn? Something the Ocelot will match well?
Does frequency matter when I am only trying to learn/recognize IR and not transmit?
Can I hand edit the Ocelot IR patterns and somehow match them with the Pronto hex info to get better matching?
I am open to any suggestions...
I'm really stuck here. I kept integrating the Ocelot deeper and deeper into my home theater and automation because it is a rock and always has been able to do what I needed. It is the big blob of glue which holds my home theater and home automation together. I have it translating X10, controlling scene lighting, sending serial commands to equipment, controlling relays to activate equipment and control my screen, etc.
This, I think is the final piece to my puzzle...I just can't get past this recognition problem.
Thanks, Jeff

This may be overly simplistic, but have you tried moving the emitter a little further away from the Ocelot? Sometimes the output of an emitter can overload the sensor that it's "feeding" and cause inconsistent operation. I have even noticed significant differences in output between different IR recievers of the same manufacturer (i.e. Xantech Dinky Link vs. VCIR). Like I said, a little simplistic maybe, but worth a look...
