Can anyone fathon a guess as to why my IR543 will not turn off a ceiling light, but the X10 remote will? I have a standard ceiling light, using two 60W regular bulbs, on House Code B, Unit Code 1. From the panel of the IR543, I can turn on/off/dim any light in my basement, except unit code 1. I can turn it on, but not off.

Thanks,

Rob

Bad #1 off contact. Test: try setting the IR543 and a module to #5, which uses the same contact, but a different address.

That's one possibility. You can check it by using the IR code to send "Unit 1", "Off". If it's a bad contact then the IR code will work fine.

If the IR code doesn't work either then you might have a high noise, or phase coupling, situation where the IR543's signal is just barely enough to turn the light on but the light is adding a small amount of noise to the powerline when on and with that extra bit of noise the IR543's signal isn't strong enough to turn it off. Try plugging the IR543 into a number of different outlets around the house and see if it's ability to control that light gets better, or worse, as it moves around.

Larry was right... Noise issues. Apparently the IR543 did not like being plugged in to the same outlet the air purifier was on. Actually, I found that it works fine when the air purifier is off. I moved it to another outlet, and now, with the air purifier on, the light responds properly.

Thanks much!

Make sure the air purifier is repeated by testing it a few more times over several days. If so then you can use a plug-in noise filter such as the AF100 ($17.35 at the link below) and then you can put the purifier anywhere you want. Also, this likely isn't your only noise producer, it was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Your overall noise level is likely still relatively high so it's good to squash any noise producers that you do find.
