There are essentially 2 paid drivers. One is available from one of the guys in the RTI forum and the other from Fusion Research. Both work fine, but the one in the forum has more refinements and is supported better. It features search, pop-up keyboard and auto-launching of various apps.

I like the fact that the driver costs more than the thing it's controlling (at least the stick). You can control it via IR with a $15 dongle and existing Ortek codes or for free with HDMI-CEC.

Why IR? The whole point of the driver is when you are adding it to a control system it directly launches the app you want from the remote interface. Some of my clients dont even know its a fire stick. They just see the "watch netflix" button, watch hulu button, etc..

Just for that alone, its worth the $$$

My job is to create a seamless and integrated system, with the least hassle as possible.

A dongle is a DIY method. I am a professional, yes you can have all your Internet of Things connected round your house with the 15 hub's it takes to control all these things, and the 15 apps to boot.

CEC in my opinion is still half baked, yes it does work, some times.

If a 40 quid driver is too much for you then that's your issue, not a single customer has complained at the cost of the driver as well as my programming time to fit an Amazon fire TV to their RTI system. And I have been going back to clients and fitting about 1 or 2 a week since the Grand Tour was first announced it was going to be on Amazon, thankyou Amazon!

I'm an end user and DIYer, not an integrator. But I do understand your point and sympathize with you. In the grand scheme of things, $45 is a drop in the bucket. However, out of principle, I simply cannot pay more to control a given device than I paid for the device itself, at least not in the consumer electronics realm. That's all I'm saying.

Maybe you miss understand where the value is. Amazon sells you their Fire stick super cheap. They even provide a nice little rf remote with voice search. They do this very cheap to get you into the eco system. The $39 for the stick and $45 for the driver is nothing compared to the years of Prime fees, movie rentals, exc. The experience all together is worth far more, imo.

Wow, came back to insult me about a 4 month old post in a thread that had already run its course in a polite and civil way. Hope that made you feel superior. I have a dozen ways to control a Fire Stick (steaming POS that it is) that don't cost me a penny. I'd say the guy who spends $45 to control a $20 device is the stupid one. And the guy who pays $3k to control a $1k TV is even more stupid. But you can't stand that kind of talk because it will eventually put you out of business.

Actually, you know what, I am stupid for posting thousands of codes for you dimwits for free that you turn around and make money on. I'm done with this forum and all the a-holes around here. Nobody at RTI and no integrator is ever going to have the patience to brute force search all the discretes we DIYers post. Find you own damn codes from now on.

But this stupid guy knows how Twitter and Yelp works. I think all current and potential ResiTech Solutions customers will find my reviews enlightening.

If you buy a module from lets say chowmain. Can you use that for everyone you program for, or is it a module per device?

It’s usually 1 license per system

I paid $80 to control a Roku stick via IP on my Bitwise system once. The value is in the convenience and not having to control something via IR. So, the driver was twice the cost of the device... meh. It works great and it was worth every penny.

By the way, that driver seems not to exist anymore on that website. Link is 404.
