Greetings

I am trying to control a Polk SR-H1000 Sirius tuner with an XP8 processor and am having some wierd results. Since the 2 control features on the back of this unit are worthless I am forced to use an IR flasher. When I fired my commands the Polk unit froze up on me. The problem isn't consistant but it is still a problem. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any reason to adjust the IR out on the XP8? Also, has anyone found a good solution for controlling this unit?

The SR-H1000 looks nice but it is an integrator's nightmare!!

Thanks
Mike

Man, I installed quite a few of the old Polk XM tuners via RS232 and they were rock solid - channels and all commands did fine, they did have an issue that if they were not shut down and restarted in a 24 hour period that they would lock up but I just hit them with a voltage sensor off of the 6 zone amp and that would take care of kicking it on and off to avoid lock ups.

Other than that I never have worked with the IR on the Polk equipment but I would recommend a voltage sensor if that might explain the lockups. Maybe check that you don't have some type of crazy "repeat" command in your IR that would piss it off.

Other than that, maybe call Polk or RTI.

Good Luck Man,

There was another thread on here somewhere about the Polks, do a search for it, I think it would help you.

there is no solution:

I spent a lot of time on this with Polk and Sirius : had to sign a non disclosure agreement with Sirius to get the serial commands

you have to enter a service mode to get it to respond to RS232 commands: this disables the front panel display and every time you turn the unit off it resets: the RS232 port is useless

and the rear IR port is also useless: every time you send a code to the rear IR port it locks up: even tried with no carrier

This tuner is misrepresented as far as rear IR port and serial command: don't waste your time

Oh and don't get me started on the rack mount: it takes up a bit more than 1 RU so if you use the rack ears you will have a space above or below in the rack (I got the Middle Atlantic RSH rack shelf which is a better solution

I have had good results with a flasher on the front: try adjusting the output for that port if you are having troubles

aside from this, it is a pretty good tuner and I see it is still widely used by integrators

Aside from being uncontrollable, needing daily reset and not fitting into a rack, it's pretty good. Wow.

Why is it still widely used? For that matter, just HOW is it widely used?

This is insane. Sirius was afraid, I guess, that thousands of installers nationwide would buy their product and make it work successfully, thus giving them a good name.

Ah. This ensured that they would not have a good name, no matter how much information you have. How absolutely bizarre!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Has anyone used the other small Sirius Tuner w/rs232? It has a knob to change the channel. The Polk one is a little big and I was not impressed with it on my last install.

Onkyo T4555 is an HD Radio that has Sirius capabilities: it requires the outboard Sirius connect receiver which costs $50.00 more

Good news is it has rear IR and RS232 ports that actually work

The Polk has a video output which gives you the capability to distribute the display throughout the home [shows title/ artist. etc] and is cheaper: you pick your poison

another alternative is go XM: since they merged (and saved by Liberty Media) it should be about the same thing: I am not familiar with XM tuners

If you have an extra DirecTV or Dish Network receiver: they carry XM/Sirius and give you the display
