So I have a sports bar with 17 RK1's, a K4, 5 CB4's and two XP8's. I'm sending out commands from each processor to two Knox matrix switches, one for HD video and the other for audio and switching the video to the K4. My problem is that I can't get the two XP8's to talk. I can get the keypads to do RS232 and run macros from the first processor but they don't run the macro for the second processor. RTI said to connect the signal and grounds of each processor and it would work, but it hasn't. Has anyone else connected multiple XP8's together? How did you do it? Thanks guys.

last thing that i had heard was that RTI did not recommend running two XP-8s connected together. if that has changed then i would try the same as with two RP-6.

Are you missing something simple like an IR passthru setting on the second XP8?

I have one project with 2 xp8's. It was installed a when they first came out, so I don't remember exactally how it was hooked up, but I did have the same problem. If I recall, it had something to do with either disconnecting the CB4 from one of the units, or hooking the signal and ground between the two xp8's to the cb4.
Why do you need 2 xp8's on this one? Just curious, as RTI say to only use one, but we ran out of outputs so we had to use 2. I can't wait till they have that expansion module avaliable, I have a few projects where I have an XP8 maxed out.

I have two XP8's because I have 22 Panny Pro plasmas, an audio matrix, video matrix, and a Grafik Eye using RS232. I also have 17 19" TV"s, 10 Sat boxes, 3 projectors, and a DVD player using IR. We plan on adding another 7 Panny Pros in a couple months.
RTI recommends against linking two XP8's because when two-way comes around they will have issues. I called them and they said to link them by the signal in and ground. But that doesn't make sense to me at all. I didn't think that the signal in sends an output.
Oh and yesterday I ran out of Flags on the one XP8 and had to shift a bunch of programming over to the other XP8.

Yeah I heard about the merger. If they pay me $85K a year I'll do as little as I can while making it look like I'm doing a lot!!

I have two XP-8 running together with no problems: there are 4 CM433's connected to both
2 things to check: address port on XP-8 and properties/control system: sometimes you have to force it to send the command to the proper XP-8 rather than use system default

I appreciate everyone trying to help. If I weren't using two XP8's and a 5 CB4's this would be a non-issue as the CB4's are connected to the XP8 at the expansion port, which if I only had handhelds the 2nd XP8 would use that port instead. I have all commands forcibly going to the correct XP8 instead of default already due to the fact that I wanted to keep IR commands for the 19" TV's on a different XP8 then the sat boxes are being controlled on. Unfortunately I have had to change that programming due to the fact that I now have separated the keypads into group 1-10 and the K4 for XP8 1 and 11-17 on XP8 2. I'll call tomorrow morning and see what RTI says.

what about connecting the second XP8 to the loop through on one of the CB4s rather then the ir and ground connections?

Joe that's what I did to separate the two XP8's. I thought about using the phoenix block for one XP8 and the RJ45 for the other but from what I've heard you can't mix and match.
