Mapping the Tivo transport controls to the T2C controls
works fine in theory. In practice, it's awkward to use
it that way. When watching "TV", one doesn't want to have
to look at the remote to find the appropriate keys for
transport. It's very difficult to have to not look at
the T2C if the transport controls are used - they're all
the same shape and they're all evenly spaced. Just doesn't
work well.

Really?

I use one (well, a T2-Cs) every day and never have to look at it to use transport controls. I know where my thumb falls (just above the Guide button) so in the split second it takes me to move my thumb down I feel the gap between Guide and Play, and I know Replay and Skip 30 sec are just below that. That sounds stupid, but that's what goes through my head semi-consciously.

I understand about the buttons being the same shape, but looking at the remote I think it's easier to find a hard button than it is to find a control on the screen. Then I don't have to guess whether or not my finger is actually on the button.

Now that you mention it, it would be nice if they could've worked out some kind of bump on the buttons like the home keys on a keyboard.

Ah well, just my opinion. I'd rather have a T2-C over a T3-V unless I had a complex, multi room system to control from it.

I take that back. I just realized that I do look at the remote to get my thumb in the right spot, but from there I don't look down every time. It was so quick I didn't even realize I was doing it.

I still prefer hard buttons when available, though. :)

Ha! Gotcha! :)

Yeah, it works. Just non-optimal compared to the original or other remotes and a larger learning curve. I totally agree about hard buttons. Can't live without them.
