Anyone done rs232 control of this tuner? How did it turn out?

I looked through the protocol, but it doesnt seem to mention XM at all. Only talks about how to control the AM/FM version.

Considering using this piece for larger whole house audio systems. I already sell the line for some of my systems but I have never tried to use it except for hooking up to the Grand Concerto.

Thanks

Yes, RS232 works fine with this tuner. That being said, I've only done control.....no feedback.

In regards to the XM vs FM......the 232 protocol just treats them as tuners "A" and "B". Depending on the model, A could be FM and B could be XM or both could XM or both could be FM. Regardless, when facing the front of the unit, A is on the left and B is on the right. Obviously, any commands specific to FM or AM or WX won't apply, but treat everything else just as tuners A and B. I would recomend setting all of your presets and then you can discretely access them from what ever control system your using....

I don't know if you're using URC or not, but I have a MSC400 file with the commands defined if you want.

Using RTI, so I doubt the msc400 file would do any good but thanks.

Appreciate the other tips.

I just did one the other day. *T'B'XM4\r for direct channel control, changes the B tuner to channel 4. I didn't try any channel up or down controls but I'm going back to the job tomorrow and I can confirm this. I also have the T2SIR serial control commands but I haven't tried them yet. I've been holding off on that programming until 2-way comes out. Yeah, I'm not holding my breath but I don't want to create an interface for my first K4 and then have a new set of backgrounds in the new ID.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but does it really mater what brand processor you are using when it comes to RS-232 codes?

Every company formats things differently.

In RTI world a Panasonic code will look like this: \x02PON\x03

The same code in AMX world looks like this: "$02,'PON',$03"
