I know there was a post addressing a portion of my question a few months ago...but I didn't wan't to piss off the regulars here by digging up something so old(Ha Ha)! First, I'm looking for a pair of "wall mount type" outdoor speakers at approx. $300. I've heard some good things about the new Cambridge Soundworks outdoor line, in particular the Outdoor 62 (They have a 6.5 inch woofer and 1" tweeter and list for $299--with an online coupon I've seen, can get them down to $269). I have a huge deck/yard area leading down to a water front dock, and am looking for something that can really disperse sound well. I'm affraid some of the prior recomendations I've seen (most with 5" woofs and 3/4" tweets) won't produce enough sound to fill such a large area, so the Outdoor 62's look enticing. I have auditioned comparable B&W's with 6.5"/1" and was impressed--but they run $500 (don't remember model number). Unfortunately, I have nowhere to audition the Cambridge Soundworks speakers (Seattle, WA) and must rely on word of mouth, so any opinions from those of you who've heard them--or have experience with any Cambridge speakers in general would be great. My second question is regarding the hook-up. I have a Sony ES receiver (DA5ES) that has a switch for "Main+3rd Room" and am wondering if hooking up the outdoor speakers to the "3rd room terminals" is a good idea-- and what kind of power is being output at these terminals (the owners manual is unclear in this regard). This receiver is 110x6 (6.1) and I'm wondering where the wattage comes from that powers the "3rd room" terminals? Any help or opinions appreciated...

I wouldn't worry about bringing up older threads. If it's relevant to your question or situation, or if you have new information to add, then go ahead and post.

G50AE,
Go away. You can't even add to this thread?? Jerk.

AJ,
I've liked the sound to price ratio of Cambridge speakers. I've got a set of computer speakers and have listened to some others, although not outdoor models. I will say that if you are trying to get sound all around this large deck, etc., you may want to try using more than 1 pair. Perhaps some "rock" speakers to hide them down by the water or something. Dispersal of sound shouldn't be a problem outside, but range and power might be. Even large speakers aren't going to sound nearly as powerful outside.

I don't know about the Sony specifically, but most amps use the rear surround amp channel(s) to double as 2ndary zone amps. Usually only 7 channel amps have speaker outputs for Zone 2, using the 2 rear surround channels. With a 6 channel amp, I don't know.

Thanks for the input Spikey. I am considering the idea of "rock type" speakers down near the dock-- in addition to the "wall mounts" I'll put up near the deck. I have heard many good things about the "value" of Cambridge speakers from others as well. Any others out there with opinions or information on the "hook-up" question? Any info you could contribute would be appreciated...Thanks Again, A.J.
