Spiky,

Thanks! :)

Lary,

I will have new pictures but you have to wait a while.
I am still using a crappy pre made audio rack and I do
not wish to showcase such nice componentry in such a
poor display. I am currently designing my own audio
rack based on the $1600.00 Finite Elemente` "Spider"
here is a 3D Rendering of what my rack will look like.

I am about to order the raw materials next week. I will
then need to go down to Lowes and get some Oak or
Poplar cut to make the beams out of. My only drawback
right now is getting the center rings machined out of
billet aluminum. All of my friends work in the machining
buisness and I myself went to school for machining.
Getting the stuff machinined is not my problem though.
Finding the stock is my problem. All of the places I
have found that sell thick wall aluminum want you to
order 8+ foot or they want an exorbatant amount for
small orders (I only need a foot and a half of 3" OD)

A machinist friend of mine says he can get me a piece
from where he works and he will machine them for me.
I need to take my blueprint over to him this weekend
so he can work on the rings (I need 8 rings total
machined.)

This will be fitting of the gear I think.. I mean it
seems kind of unballanced to put an $800.00 Preamp on
a $99.00 Best Buy stand :)

I am going to keep my tube Monoblocks over by each
speaker though. So I may make mini amp stands for the
tube amps.

Whatcha think?

I think my system looks pretty boring now. :)

What does everybody who has open racks like this do about dust? I've stayed away from open racks because of this.

My rack being an open plan design (with plate glass shelving) I use a combination of dust cloth and luke warm damp cloth (with a dab of liquid soap). The latter being extremely good at removing doggie snot marks and cattie paw prints.

DJY,

LOL Funny you mention doggy snoot prints.. I wish that
was the least of which my doggie left on my equipment.

For some odd reason she has yet to learn:

A: Chew with your mouth closed

and

B: Don't eat in the living room!

Hmm. With the amount of bird dust flying around our house, I'm going to stick with the enclosed method. That 5-times-a-day dusting gets tiring. ;-)
