Hi, not too long ago I purchased two Pioneer DVF-727s (301 DVD changers) and have them daisy chained. Mostly they work fine, but I did have the well known problem of the loader mechanism jumping off the rails on the slave unit. I managed too fix it, but since them the disc management system seems unable to hold the identity of the DVDs in the slave unit. I spend hours inputing all the disc titles etc., and then a few days or even hours later they all disappear. The units still work fine, and all the discs in the master unit are still displayed, but the ones in the slave, although they will play, appear with ??s insted of disc titles. Have anyone else experienced this, and hopefullt mananged to solve, problem?

I have two of these units, also. I have not had any trouble with the Slave jumping out of the track yet but did have the Master unit do it once, before I bought the second unit. Had to remove all disks and put them back in. It remembered nearly all of them even though some were in different locations. So didn't have any memory problems you are speaking of. However, I might ask, how far apart are your units and what are you using for a connect between the two. Here is what I had happen. I didn't want to disconnect and relocate any of my already installed devices so I put the new Slave unit on the opposite side of my TV, in my entertainment center, so I used a 2 meter mono line, which appears to be what Pioneer ships with these units for piggy-backing, only their's is very short. When I turned on the Master, it didn't even see the Slave unit. Thought it was bad. So took the Slave unit out and placed it on a stand close to the Master and conected with the Pioneer provided short cord and worked perfectly. Moved some things around so they would be one over the other and reconnected using a shorter cord but still not the Pioneer cord because their's is so short. It did see it and would even load a DVD and start playing but would fall off line and turn off unexpectedly at any time. So connected using the Pioneer cord again, even though it is a stretch to reach from one to the other, and have not had a problem since. If I remember correctly, there were times it did not remember the titles of the DVD's in the Slave unit when I used a cord other than the Pioneer cord. But not sure about that. But appears you have to use the Pioneer cord to connect them together or at least one that is no longer than their's.

This may not be what is happening to you but thought I would share with you.

Chris, perhaps swap the two, so the slave becomes the master and vice versa. See if the problem stays with the one machine.

Larrys,

Thanks for your advice. I am using the original cable, and the units are close together and should have good connection as I am not stretching the cable. Maybe I'll try the other cable (they each came with one). Switching the units sounds like a good idea to try, only I'm afraid I'll also loose the 300 titles that is in the present Master unit.

Christopher,

I also own a Pioneer PDF-1007, which is their 301 CD player which the DVF-727 is modeled after. Right after I purchased this unit, I found that after loading my favorites into the "Best" section of the unit(it will hold 50 songs in Best), it would lose them after a few days. They were supposed to remain in memory until I would clear it out. I took it back to Best Buy and was advised that it had bad memory in it. They had trouble getting memory modules for it as it was a very new model, so they replaced it and it has worked fine since.

I only mention this as it sounds like possibly you may have a memory problem with your unit. I really don't think you would lose your 300 titles in the Master unit by switching the units around, as they are pretty independant of each other, in that respect. But sure couldn't guarantee it.

Thanks Larry,

As I purchased the players from the US over the net and had them shipped to Norway I don't think I can be bothered to take all the discs out, ship them to the US and maybe have them repaired, only to be accidentally broken when shipped back to me?! (I admit I am a paranoid lawyer) Also I am not totally dependent on using the GUI as I have all my DVD titles on a PC running DVD profiler. The collection numbers on Profiler corresponds to the slot numbers on the changers. This works fine, but also means I am not really interested in changing the Master-Slave relationship on a permanent basis, as this would screw up my numbering.

That only makes sense. I didn't realize you were so far away. Sounds like you have it under control anyway. Nice talking with you and good luck with the units. I really enjoy them. Hope you do too....
