I am taking back the B&K AV507 and i don't know what to get. I really don't want to spend more money. I have a DSP-A1 now and it's been great, i just thought i was getting a better receiver with the B&K. It already has problems after 1-day.

Todd, IMHO, I think the B&K is a far superior receiver. Not that the Yamaha is a bad choice, personally, I feel most Yamaha have way too many sound field choices, must of them are useless. Another good choice might be the Denon AVR5803, but I'll stick out with the B&K, since I think is sounds better than either Yamaha or Denon. Btw, I work in retail sales, we carry B&K, Yamaha, Denon, SonyES, Pioneer Elite.

A lemon is no reason to give up on one of the best products available. Don't accept a fix, make them exchange for a new 507. You'll be very happy with it.
Marantz has some nice products, too. Probably worth your consideration if you are definitely not going with the B&K.

Todd also look at the Integra DTR-8.3 or DTR-9.1 . Both sound great. But i agree with Spiky you just had some bad luck the B&K is american built and no one touches thier quality. Sometimes those guys may get a little tired assembling that gear. But believe me their service and turn around is bar none the best out there if you have a problem later..

Todd, what did you end up with? I just updated my system including a change from the DSP-A1 to a B&K AV505. I didn't think I'd detect much of a difference in the receiver, but was wrong. I really like the sound of the B&K. My dealer also carried Denon so I was able to compare the two. I also considered the Sunfire Ultimate receiver, but was unable to do a side-by-side test with it.
I do have one issue with the B&K. The digital inputs cause some pops/clicks when the streams get interrupted. This occurs when changing channels on DBS receivers, using TIVO +30 secs, etc. It was so annoying I setup a second analog path. B&K did send a software upgrade out(version 1.03) but it didn't correct the issue.

well i took back the B&K and went with a Elite 47tx. I'm not really happy with it either, i know the B&K sounded far superior, but i could not deal with the cracks and pops. The one i had was version 1.00 and i told them when they get a new shipment in and we can check to verify that one of them has v1.03 on it i might trade back. So you say that version doesn't correct to popping and cracking i hear, what does it correct? What do you mean you set up a second analog path to correct the pops and clicks? I don't know what i want to do. I might even try the REf 50, i know they are the same unit but i might as well try it out.

Todd, the V1.03 upgrade fixed a PCM decoding issue I had with a Samsung SIR-T160 HDTV receiver.
The real click/pop issue is with a Hughes HDVR2 DirectTiVo. Originally I connected just the PCM for sound. At my dealers suggestion, I added the stereo analog connections as well. Between the presets on the B&K and a Pronto remote I have a partial solution. I use the analog connection for most viewing since it eliminates the clicks/pops. I switch to PCM only during shows with a 5.1 soundtrack. I have a CCF in the files section with the B&K but I don't think it includes the fixes mentioned above. Email me if you have a Pronto and are interested.
