I recently purchased a ceiling fan with a remote. I want to program my Sony VL600 to operate the fan.

I have managed to 'learn' for the TV, but how so I set a button for the ceiling fan (maybe the VCR button) without a code? Is initially setting a button for a device a learnable function?

Can anyone explain to me how this works, or if it works?

Thanks so much. I admit, I am fairly new to the 'learning' remote functionality.

Is the ceiling fan RF, can you control it from another room? Does the remote have a FCC ID sticker on it?

Thank you for your time and sorry for the delay in getting back.

I believe the fan remote is IR because I can cover the remote and it still works.

It does have an FCC sticker on the back - does that mean it's RF?

Again, this is very new to me. Thank you for your patience!

If you cover the remote and it still works, and it also has an FCC sticker on the back, then it is definitely RF, and no universal remote can control it.

Bummer. Not the answer I wanted, but I can stop spinning my wheels now anyway.

Thank you for your response.

There's an expensive solution to this problem in this thread.
