Have a VL1000 and I can't learn the center/sub/surround speaker buttons from my Pioneer remote.
It seems when pressing the center/sub/surround buttons, the remote sends a single "pulse" and that's it, even if I hold the button down. It's not long enough for the Vl1000 to learn.
Any ideas?

Never mind. I discovered that pressing the center or sub or surround button causes the level +/- buttons to change their function. The level +/- buttons can be programmed without a problem. I'm good to go.
