Sections 1,2,and 3 on page 23 of the users manual talks about how to change the function display of a key. From reading this section, one would believe that a label (i.e. display or guide) could be change to whatever the user would like. Am I all wet or is this just another one of Sony's screw ups. I spend about 2 hours talking with Sony's customer support today, just to find that they know very little about this product. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

The Label keys and the Mode Display keys (see page 6 for location of keys) can be changed using the alphanumeric keypad that appears in the Label Input mode. It's like using the numbers on a telephone keypad to enter letters and symbols. The Function display keys on the other hand, can only be changed to the preset messages offered by that particular key. Look at page 103. Notice that the function display key to the right of the number 6 is labeled Input, Audio, D.Skip and Replay. Those are the only chices available for that particular key. Notice that all of the other keys have different choices. Only the Label keys (pages 79-81) and Mode Display keys (pages 79-81) offer full alphanumeric editing.
This isn't as ideal as a full editing capability would be but it is a lot better than what was offered with the RM-AV2100 which didn't offer anywhere near this much flexibility. I too had a lot of trouble understanding the manual when it came to editing the Mode Display keys so you might want to read that thread (started by me) as well. Daniel Tonks helped me out with that one. As for technical support, I never call anymore. Forums like this one offer a lot more help than anyone you can reach on the phone.
