I want to buy an RM AV3000 but dont want to pay 230 UKP (wich is the same as 360 US dollars!) so I want to get it when in the US on holiday. Will there be any compatibility problems doing this? The UK Sony centres are much more expensive that the US ones.

No... since it's a learning remote you'll be able to teach it any functions that the Euro-specific version might have.
