I'm seeing a problem on my Sony RM-AV2100 . I'm trying to use macros for the first time. I have cleared the macros in all 3 system control buttons.

When I use the "power on" for my Yamaha CDM-900 CD changer as part of the macro, it turns it on and then immediately back off.

Other commands, such as the "power on" for my projector, just don't get executed at all when I record them in the macro - but the key works outside of the macro.

After clearing the macro once again, I tried to make one macro that turns on all my components, but it just won't work for the CD and the projector, even though it will turn on the DVD player, 3 VCRs, and receiver.

If I use a command to select a source in the receiver, the command is always repeated 3 times, which changes the input type on my receiver (from "auto" to DTS to analog)... I tried to rerecord the discrete codes but it makes no difference.

I'm getting really bummed about this. Basically it would appear that the macros are useless on this remote.
Is there a solution, besides getting a different remote ?

I need more macros than the 2100 has anyway.

What I want to do is set a macro for each source that I select on my receiver (amp component).

Eg.

- when I select my HDTV STB, I want to set the receiver to that audio source, and at the same time tell the projector to use input 3 (component video) .

- when I select the dish receiver, I want to select the audio in the amp, and input 2 in the projector (s-video)

etc.

I don't want to use the component key for the macro, because I like to be able to control devices even while they are not the active device.

I will need a large number of macros, about 8, and they must all be in the "amp" component. Is there any remote that will do ? Will the RM-AV3000 do, assuming they fixed the above bug ?

The AV3000 will make you happy. I had the 2100 for a year, and the lack of macro’s was my biggest complaint. When I got the 3000, it was great. With the exception of your Yamaha turning off and then on, which has happened to others with different types of equipment and has never really been solved, all the other problems are usually the result of improper learning or loading the macro. You didn’t say what kind of components you have, but there are sometimes problems with some because of toggle bit problems (Philips, for example).

The CD won’t turn on because I have never seen a CD player with a power button (I don’t know why they don’t include one, but they don’t), and the projectors sometimes need the power button to be held down for a length of time, which may be the problem.

The command repeating 3 times is usually the result of pressing the key too hard when making the macro, so it repeats.

You cannot put 8 macro’s in one component, or did you mean you will need 8 macro’s for one component? The 3000 has 3 hard button system keys and 12 label (lcd) button keys where you can load macro’s. They are easily accessible, and the buttons can be relabelled to read what you want them to, which makes them easy to locate. You will be able to make the macro’s you describe, as long as your original remote had the function, or you use discrete codes.

When you get the 3000, be sure and read this thread on systems keys and do what it says before you load any macro’s [Link: remotecentral.com]

WRT power button :
I have programmed the discrete code "on" for my Yamaha CDM-900 changer into the RM-AV2100. It works fine and never has the result of turning it on or off when I press that key by itself.

The problem only occurs when I put that code within the macro. When executing the macro, I can see the changer turning on, loading a disc, which is quite loud, then immediately it says "standby" and turns iself off.

My Sanyo PLV-Z1 projector doesn't require the power button to be held down for a particular amount of time, so I don't think that's the problem I'm seeing.

As far as other components, I got tons. They all work just fine when controlled individually with the RM-AV2100. It's only when I use macros that things go weird. Here is the list :

Yamaha RX-V995 A/V receiver
Yamaha CDM-900 110 CD changer
DishPVR 508 satellite receiver with hard disk recorder
Sony SCD-CE775 5 SACD changer
Panasonic RV60 DVD player (PAL model)
Panasonic 4821 SVHS VCR (NTSC)
Aiwa HX-MX100 VHS VCR, PAL/SECAM/NTSC with converter
JVC HRS-9600 SVHS VCR (PAL)
Samsung SIR-T165 HDTV STB
Canon ZR-70 MC miniDV camcorder

Yes, I meant I need 8 macros for one component. I'm reading the review of the RM-AV3000 now at [Link: remotecentral.com] :

"Another minor type of macros are "Channel Macros". These are a hangover from the RM-AV2100 that aren't implemented effectively enough to be of much benefit. With television, cable box and set top box component types, any of the customizable LCD keys can contain a short 4-step macro. Sound minimalistically good? Not really, because the only commands they can contain are the digits from 0 through 10 and [Enter], from that device. Since these can be custom labelled they're of slightly more use than the RM-AV2100, where the occupied squares could not be made to display anything even remotely appropriate, but the next logical step for Sony would have been to allow true macros on any of the LCD label keys."

I would need to be able to program 8 keys on the LCD for one component with true macros, so this remote won't work for me :-(
