I got myself an RM-AV3000 remote this week-end at Fry's, to see if it would solve my macro problems with the RM-AV2100.

Unfortunately, I'm still struggling with the macro issues on this new remote.

I'm about to conclude that the macros on both of these Sony remotes are severely broken. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated !

I have found that if I include a key with a learned signal as part of a macro, the signal is always played 3 times when playing back the macro. If on the other hand I include one of the preset signals, it is only played one time.

For example the Sony remote has a preset for my Yamaha RX-V995 receiver to select the "tape" input. But there is no pre-programmed code for the "DVD" input - I had to learn that code.

I'm able to get a macro to work to switch the receiver to the tape input, but when I make a macro that selects the DVD input, it selects it three times, which switches the receiver to analog mode (each time you select the same input, it toggles between auto, DTS and analog) ...

Has anyone been able to get past this problem ?
FYI this seems to be happening with pretty much all learned signals. I think it explains my earlier problem trying to turn on my CD changer - it plays the signal 3 times which turns it on and immediately back off.

I have tried changing the "delay" setting on the but to no avail. The problem is exactly the same on the RM-AV2100 and RM-AV3000.

Can anything be done about this ?
If I can't resolve the problems with the Sonys, I'll take back my new RM-AV3000 in the next couple of days.

I don't want to get a Pronto. Money isn't the main object; but I don't want to buy a remote that requires a computer to fully program, especially not a computer running a microsoft operating system, which I abhor.

Is there any solution out there for me ?

When learning signals, hold the button down until the remote finishes learning. Otherwise it will not learn the code properly and it will not work correctly in macros.

Daniel,

I will try again, but I have already done it dozens of time. I'm quite sure that my Sony remotes have learned the codes properly. I have used my RM-AV2100 for years with no problems and over 100 learned codes on about 10 components. It has always worked fine. Until I tried to use macros.

The trouble only occurs when I use the keys with learned codes in macros. If I use the keys with learned signals individually, they work fine. The problem occurs even if I create a macro with a single key on it. Clearly the Sony remote is not sending the same signal when I press the macro key than when I press the individual key with the learned signal.

So it happens with both the 2100 and the 3000, which probably rules out a defective remote. What can it be? Can you write down exactly how you load your macro's?

Thanks so much Daniel ! That was it !
I had to relearn my codes by holding the original remote down until the Sony beeped. After I did that, the macros worked fine. This is with both the 2100 and the 3000 .

See? :-) We've seen the "3 repeats" problem many times before!

Daniel,

Shouldn't Sony include this info somewhere in bold in TFM ? If it's there, I sure missed it ... I did searches in this forum too before posting my questions, but I did not find solutions to the "3 repeats" - only reports by other users running into the problem.
Perhaps there should be a FAQ.

Regardless, many thanks ! I can now safely add an external remote-controllable Zektor HDS4 switch to add sources, and have the remote handle the extra switching in macros, instead of being forced to replaced my Yamaha receiver to add more inputs.

I believe the manual *does* indicate to hold the button until the remote beeps, but doesn't explain what will happen if you don't.

Madbrain, in addition to what has a;ready been said, if you teach the 3000 a dirty code( short burst) it can lock up the remote causing you to have to remove a battery to reset it. If yu havent read it already, when you change the batteries (or take one out to reset the remote) WAIT 20 seconds before you put in the new batteries. You can wait 5 hours if you want, just wait at least 20 seconds, if you dont you rick the chance of losing all programing. The 2100 does not have this quirk.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

cb1,

Thanks for the info.
I'm returning the 3000 today because I got my 2100 to work fine. I actually like the 2100 better because it has 12 hard component buttons where I programmed my macros. The 3000 only has 6 of those buttons. And it's too slow to switch components on the 3000 when you have as many as I do.

Madbrain, dont return it just yet! If you like the 2100, you will absoutly love the 3000, it blows it out of the water, Ask Ron and others I'm sure they will agree.
Yes the 3000 does only have 6 hard buttons, but has another 12 component buttons for a total of 18 component buttons. press other to see them. The "other" 12 component butttons can be relabled to say what ever you want them to say, and macros programmed to them. you can also relable up to 12 buttons on each component page, and set up channel macros that actually say "ESPN".
In additionm you have a total of 15 system control buttons.
You can set the component macros to execute as soon as you press the component button-- DVD, TV, whatever.
The default is hold the component button for 1 second.
I have a bunch a components and the 3000 works everything great. Even my 3 year old knows to hit the DVD button and without fail, everytime everything goes the the right input and starts playing, all discrete codes.
Sony 57" -- sony 5 disc
Sony dvd (prog scan)-- sony hd200 sat
Sony VCR -- Sony basic sat
Sony ES reciever-- RCA sat (modulated out thru house)
Sony camcorder-- Sony dvd(modulated out thru house)
Sharp 24" TV -- JVC VCR (modulated thru house)
Play station 2-- Audio Access house wide system
Sony 200 disc-- XM Sat Radio
Lutron spacer system (two lamps, and kitchen)

All of this is in my living room, and controled by the 3000. I have a system macro set up that says "Watching DVD" that turns off everything except for the "DVD" this is when someone else in the house is watching the DVD in another room, same for vcr and sat.(I also have ir control in each of the rooms with a TV, to conrtol the DVD,VCR,and SAT.
Anyway I love my 3000 and my family couldnt get along without it. Think twice before you give up on it.
