I recently bought a plain jane $15 Sony universal remote control to use with a Sony DAV-BC250 Home Theater system. After struggling with it for what seemed like forever, the technical support helpline at Sony kindly informed me that a universal remote would not work with these type of systems. He was unable to answer whether another type or brand of remote control would be compatible.
So, I'm now considering trying a "learning" remote, namely the Sony RM-VL900 (I love that it has rubberized edges as I have hardwood floors.) Can anyone tell me if a learning remote will be able to learn a "home theater in a box" system, or am I just stuck juggling remotes? I've never used a learning remote before, so much thanks for any helpful advice.

If you have the original remote for the vl900 to learn from, there should be no problems. But if are missing the oem remote, the vl900 doesn't have a code.
