I'm not seemingly able to use this remote to access my DVD player's menu. I've tried both codes for Samsung DVD players in the code book, as well as the "learning" function, but nothing seems to work. Any tips? I've got it set up to control basically everything else, just not my DVD menus. Thanks!

Are you talking about the DVD player's setup menu. The DVD manual says to press the setup button on the remote. If there is no corresponding function on the RM-V402, then you won't be able to access this function. I suggest pressing all the buttons to see if one of them will open the setup menu.
What "learning" function are you talking about? The RM-V402 is not a learning remote.

Not the setup menu (which actually works, believe it or not), but the DVD menu itself (Play, Chapters, Special Features etc.) By "learning," I mean the remote cycling through the hundred-odd codes to see if it can find one that works. That clear things up? Any advice?

Sorry I didn't think of the "search" function when you talked about "learning".
The instructions for the V402 show a "Menu" button on the remote, for calling up the DVD menu, and a "Recall" button for bringing up the Title. If neither of these buttons, or any of the other buttons, will call up the menu you want, then I am afraid I cannot offer any suggestions for accessing that menu, other than getting a learning remote and learning the commands from the DVD remote.
Sad to say, if the function isn't on the RM-V402, then it cannot be used.

Well, it was worth a shot. I know it's blasphemy in these parts, but I can't justify spending upwards of $100 on a decent remote control - I had hoped that this Sony, when it said "menu," actually meant "menu" ;) I've got an older Jenson that's falling apart that is able to access a DVD's menu without any problems. Oh well.
