I am a newbie with the Sony AV3000. I am struggling
with the power on/off issue as many other people have
done. I have read a number of the threads about discrete
codes; have looked at [Link: hifi-remote.com]
to see if I can get the discrete codes I need to perform
the functions I want.

My question is twofold.

Assuming I find the discrete code I need, how do I get a
specific code programmed to any button on the
AV3000? The manual seems to imply that I can
set a new code for a Component Select or Label key,
but seems to talk only about codes for an entire remote
and not for a specific function. Do I just use one of the
Component Select or Label keys for a specific discrete
code?

The second part is whether there's some way to copy
such a learned function to something other than one of
the Component Select or Label keys. The manual
talks about how to copy between Component or Label
keys, but I can't see how to copy a code to one of
the LCD keys. The manual seems to imply that
these can be programmed only via learning from a
separate remote.

Ideally I would like to use a number of the LCD keys
on some unused device (e.g. MD player) for discrete
power on and off functions for each of the devices I have
so I can incorporate them into macros as many other
people have discussed.

Apologies if I've overlooked a thread where this has
been covered.

The codes on hifi-remote.com are stricty for UEI made remotes under the brands of one-for-all or radio shack. There is no way to enter discrete commands directly into the av3000, only by learning from another remote.

Thanks for the reply, Edmund. I had read the threads
[Link: remotecentral.com]
and
[Link: remotecentral.com]

which seemed to imply this was the way to solve my problem.

Given that it's not, can someone point me to any thread that summarizes
how to solve the power on/power off problem? To restate it, the power
button that's pre-programmed causes the power state to toggle rather than
having separate On and Off buttons. I know my DVD will power on by hitting
the Play button but that's not the way my Sony TV or Sony VCR work.

Enable the "sony power on" feature. when ever you press the TV,DVD, VCR button it will turn on that component. Use that in your macros. In you "OFF macro's press "TV" then press power, press VCR, then press power, press DVD then press power. Be sure to set the component sys delay to zero seconds. (default is 1 second)
Look on you TV remote, check for a green button that says system off, you can teach that to the 3100 remote. It does the same thig as the preprogramed all off, but it only beeps once.

Thanks; I hadn't thought of that. I had already enabled the Power On feature for each of the component buttons but hadn't realized I could include that button in the Macro.

Too bad I'm planning to replace my Sony TV with a Samsung HLP5063; I'll probably have to go through all this again ;-)

Thanks again

Peter
