Can anyone point me to a relatively inexpensive one-for-all remote that is capable of learning the Moxi navigate buttons? I just upgraded to HD and a Moxi box and tried re-teaching my old Sony RM-VL700 and those buttons would not work.

All learning remotes will have trouble learning the moxi commands. You need moxi commands preset, not many universals have it. If a OFA has the code, it will be in the newest remotes, the urc-6820, 8820, or 10820.

Nope, no OFA remote has a code prset for Moxi cable boxes. There is an upgrade code available, CAB 1187, but for the remotes I listed above you would need to send it in for upgrade. Other remotes like the urc-8910, 9910 and most kameleons can have the code loaded over the phone.

Thanks, edmund;

I need to explain (you'll no doubt recognize) how low-tech I am. I do not understand "OFA" nor "CAB 1187". Can you please boil it down to what model remote I need and then how to upgrade or where I can find insructions to load via phone.

Thats One-For-All(OFA), a brand of remote. Cab is short for Cable, a device key on the one the OFA remote where you'll find code 1187. But that code isn't in a OFA remote, uyou need to call to have it loaded over the phone. To such models as URC-8910, urc-9910, or urc-9960.

Once you have one the models above you call the phone # in the manul they will go through the steps to have it upgraded. Tell them your model of cable box, allow them to suggest codes, if they don't give you 1187, ask for it to be added to ones they came up.

Thanks, that cleared it all up for me. Just one more question as I shop for the model to get, are the complaints about 1 or 2 week battery life valid? I can't believe I would have to change that often.

Not on the 8910 or 9910, I can see it happening with kameleons(urc-9960). But newer 9960's, can have the motion sensor turned off, so the batteries will probably last longer, becuse the screen isn't always on.
