i am considering purchasing this remote. i have a very
unsual cable box and i belive i will need to "map" several
keys to the sony remote- for example i have a parental
control button (PC) to block out sex and violence, and a
PASS button which allows me to bypass the box if i want
to keep it off. how can i use the limited key labeling
to keep these straight in my head?

You can use a label that's somehow related to the function you're trying to perform. For instance, I control a C-Band satellite receiver which is not directly supported. One of missing lables is "satellite". So I use ANGLE, which for me is the "ANGLE in the sky" where the satellite is located. Anyway, you'd be surprised at how quickly you get used to using a different lable. Another approach is to use label location and ignore the text of the label all together. Use whatever method works better for you.
