Hi,

Can somebody please answer some questions I have about my new Sony RM-AV3000 Universal Remote? So far, I am really enjoying it!

1. My television has 7 video inputs, the remote has only 4 direct video input buttons. I would like to add three additional video input buttons to my remote control instead of having to repeatedly press the "input" button on the TV component screen. How can I accomplish this? (Note: I do not have another remote capable of doing this, so I can not take advantage of the learning function.)

2. Sony has a great Sony component "power on" only feature. They also have a Sony component "power off" feature. These are very, very handy for macros. I know how to access the "power on" feature for components only, that really doesn't help.

2a. How do I access the "power on" feature simply during system macros?

2b. How do I access the "power off" feature at all?
(Note: I've only noticed this during the pre-programmed system 3 macro that I have no desire to use)

2c. Is there any way to use this Sony power feature with a Samsung SIR-T351 HDTV STB?

3. I have a Sony remote that came with my A/V receiver that sends and receives info from my components including my Sony 200 CD jukebox. I am surprised that the RM-AV3000 does not seem to have the receive capability to display information from the CD player. Any info on this?

Thanks,
tech_fly

1. You will have to make a macro for each additional input. For example, video 5 would be the video 4 key and the tv/tuner key, video 6 would be video 4and tv/tuner key twice, video 7 would be video 4 and tv/tuner key 3 times.

2. I don’t really understand the question. Did you mean you know how to access the power on feature for Sony components only? The power on feature only applies to Sony components.

2a. You can add the power on function to the component or label key, for Sony components only. See page 43 of the manual. Then, if you insert the component key into the macro, it will turn on the component. Remember, if you are turning on a tv, there is a delay before the tv is ready to accept commands, so you can insert several presses of the timer key to delay the operation of the other macro functions long enough for the tv to warm up.

2b. There is no access to the power off feature except in the Sysyem Control 1 key. By the way, be sure and see this thread about System Control 1 and 3 keys [Link: remotecentral.com]

2c. You can only use the Sony power on feature with Sony components.

3. The AV3000 is NOT a two way remote, so it cannot receive information from a CD player, receiver, etc.

If you cannot do everything you want to do with the 3000, you might consider using discrete codes, which require the use of a RS/OFA remote, an additional expense but well worth it for the advantages received. See this thread if you are interested [Link: remotecentral.com]

Hi Ron,

Thank you for your prompt and helpful reply. You knew just what I was looking for!

I will have to check into the discrete codes and understand them better. The problem I am having with the simple macros is that if a unit is commanded to power off, and the IR misses the command, you can't just press the macro again to turn it off, otherwise it will toggle the other units on. Sony solved this problem with the "discrete on/off" commands. I'll examine the other threads you mentioned.

Thanks again,

I don't know why the IR would miss a command, but if it did, you could simply use the power switch to turn the component off. Discrete codes will solve your problems, depending on your equipment. As far as I know, there are no discrete power codes for Samsung components, but most components will give you discrete power commands, along with a whole bunch of others that will make you wonder how you ever got along without them.

Most dvd players, you can hit play for discrete on, for a work around discrete off, do this.. in your off macro for the DVD press play then power, resulting in off. Cable boxes, Sat recievers, VCRs, just leave on, plug your cd player into your reciever(most cd players dont have a remote on and off),

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!
