If this doesn't belong in this forum, or perhaps even this website let me know.

New KV-34XBR910 TV caused major rearrangement of components. Can't get good line of site IR to SLV-960HF VCR (for some reason IR sensor is on extreme left of face while all the rest of my Sony gear has it centered or on the right). Rather than buy an IR repeater to solve one problem I tried connecting a Control-S cable from TV (out) to VCR (in). Set both the remote and vcr to vtr3. Switched TV to Video-1 input with VCR off. Blank screen. Used VCR remote to Power On and got channel to which VCR was tuned. Pressed Play on VCR remote and got recorded movie. So far so good. Pressed Stop. Nothing. Pressed Power. Nothing. No other signal after Play was recognized. (With Control-S cable connected remote ignored even when placed directly in front of IR sensor.) Manual Power switch successfully shut down.

I've used Control-S with no problem in Video editing. The only thing new in the equation is the TV.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Bob

Even though your tv manual says you can use Control S to control your Sony equipment, your vcr manual (page 68) says Control S is only used to connect 2 vcr's (or maybe a camcorder), so I don't think you will actually be able to control your vcr by control s from the tv. Also, when you plug in the control s cable, it disables the remote control function, so you can only use one or the other. I have never had the Sony equipment to use the control s feature, but from reading the manuals I think I have drawn the correct conclusions.

Ron,
You are absolutely correct. When all else fails read BOTH manuals! And my previous use was to control two VCRs for vdeo editing. I'll wait to see if the AV3000 can blast around corners or reflect off walls before I get a repeater.

Thanks again,
Bob

Are you sure your batteries are good? I have never had a problem with IR reception, even when pointing the 3000 out of the doorway to the room, or at the window, etc. Could be something to do with the Sony vcr, but check your batteries. Also see this thread and maybe avoid losing all your settings [Link: remotecentral.com]

I don't have my AV3000 yet. Still in audio/video finacial shock from all the new components. The only units in my profile that are leftovers are the VCRs.

The 3000 should solve your line of sight problem. Be sure and read the battery thread. Check out this place for a good price http://www.surfremotecontrol.com/

Hmm, even factory original remotes should be able to send enough of a signel to get to slightly-off-center items. But the 3000 certainly will fix that.
