Wow! After about 1 hour of trying to get my Hughes DVR remote to work with my Sony receiver, I finally decided to search the web. This post solved my problem. I was on AV2 instead of AV1. Now everything works perfectly. Thanks a ton for this post! These message forums are the BEST!!!!!

I noticed that on the STR-DA9000ES the Reciever itself requires that the "Input" button be pressed while the I/O button is toggled on, not the "Enter" Button like previous models.
I also could not change the AV1/2 on the Remote for this Reciever by using the above instructions.
However, after the Reciever is changed to the appropriate AV1/2 , you can use the "Register" feature on the Remote. The Remote will pick up the last setting (AV1/2) from the Reciever using the 2-way communication.

There were no instructions above for the STR-DA9000ES receiver because I had never listed them, but the procedures you describe are the same as for the STR-DA5000ES, which is listed.

On page 60 of the manual, the procedure you describe for the receiver is stated for the remote, which is obviously an error.

Since you have verified these procedures for both the receiver and the remote as being the same as those for the STR-DA5000ES, I will add the STR-DA9000ES procedures to my thread.

Thank you for your post. I like to keep this thread as current as correct as I possibly can. If I have misread your post and the procedures are different, please be sure and let me know.

I HAVE THE RM-AV3100 REMOTE, ALL ITEMS WORK (TV, DVD, VCR, CD) THE AMP OR RECIEVER (HT-DDW665) WILL NOT WORK. I TRIED TO THE CODES FOR THE REMOTE (4001 & 4002) I ALSO TRIED (4003). THE CODES ARE NOT WORKING OR I AM DOING SOMTHING WRONG OR IS THERE ANOTHER CODE?

The european user manual for STR-DA3000ES and STR-DA5000ES is upgraded. On page 59 is a example for changing between the av1 and av2 remote setting (holding "input mode" while pressing "power button").

Thanks for your most excellent post. I spent about 2 hours trying to get my Hughes DirecTV DVR remote to work with the STR-DE698 I just bought before somebody in the Tivo Community Forum sent me to this post. Why Sony just can't explain in a section in the manual what AV1 and AV2 are for and why you need to switch between them is beyond me.

It looks like I'm going to buy a STR-DA3100ES. FYI: I pulled up the manual for that unit and it notes the same operations to change the command mode for the DA5000ES, etc.

Hello I'm new here and I did benefit from this greate forum,
and adding some to it .
Here it is....

I do have a SONY STR-DE597 and a RM-U306B remote.
And i have changed the AV2 to AV1 and now I am using the code 1441 in de ONE FOR ALL remote URC-8206 a Kameleon 6.
Now I can change the suround/ vol/channel/dvd/turner/video/sa-cd/md-tape/menu/setup.

At first I did call the helpdesk of ONE FOR ALL and they did give me the code 1758.
That did work, but not to my satisfaction and I did not have the option for the suround mode and setup menu.

It worked!

I had a Directv Tivo unit that would not accept my Sony receiver codes. Nowhere in the Sony manual is the information you provided about AV1 and AV2. How would anyone know that AV1 is necessary to accept codes? And why wouldn't that be the default from Sony instead of AV2? These engineers need to hire regular users to test their products before release.

Thank you so much,

Ken

I came across your website when I was having trouble programming my Sony receiver using a universal remote. I even called Sony to try and get help but all they could do was direct me on where to buy an original replacement remote (sounded expensive!). To my delight I followed your instructions on how to reset to AV1 and viola my universal remote works! This is an awesome site and I want to thank you for saving me a ton of money!

Cheers from Canada!

Hi, I have the Sony reciever STR-K665P, and remote RM-U665 for my home theater system HT-DDW665 and I haven't seen any of these numbers listed in you instructions on changing to AV1/2. I also have the sony 2100 remote. Would any other model number apply to mine?

I have updated the thread to include your receiver. The instructions for the HT-DDW650 (STR-K650P receiver) system also apply to yours. As you will see, you can change the receiver to AV1 but you cannot change the remote. This means that you will be able to use the preset code but you will be missing some commands, so leave the receiver in AV2 and learn everything.

Any chance you could provide info about changing a STR-DG800 (RM-AAP0008 remote) from AV2 to AV1?

I can't seem to find info for this model anywhere.

TIA
