I have a VL900 remote it doesn't control the str de895 receiver. Using the remote that came with the receiver I changed the receiver from av1 to av2 the receiver still doesn't respond to the vl900. Am I doing something wrong or do I have to get another universal remote?

"using the remote that came with the receiver I changed the receiver from AV1 to AV2"

First you're changing it from AV2 to AV1, and the process is in two stages. You do not use the remote to change the receiver, you need to manipulate the front controls of the receiver, then of course you need to change the oem remote as well.

I tried to control the str de895 with the vl900 and it failed for me as well. I switched the Receiver to both av1 and av2 -
I tried programming the vl900 to 001, 002 and 003. It wont turn off the amp or change the volume....

Any other ideas ??

Thanks in advance
Doug

Will it control all the other commands except for the power and volume? If it does, then it is set correctly; if not, see the following thread. There is no code 003 in the VL900, only 001 and 002. Code 003 only applies to mini hifi components, not the 895. You have to change BOTH the receiver and the remote to AV1. See this thread [Link: remotecentral.com] See page 21 of the manual, which tells how to control the volume with different devices, and make sure you have it set so the amp will control the volume when you are in the amp component.

OK I am an idiot ... I went back and tried everything again. Set the Reciver to AV1 comm mode and set the vl900 to 001 and it works just fine. The power, volume and inputs all work. Sorry for the fire drill
