I can't get the STR-DA4ES to work with the AV3000. The preset codes do not work. Any Ideas?

Change the reciever to command mode AV-1, change the reciever remote to command mode 1. The default is AV 2,
the 3000 is AV1. By changing to AV 1 you can use the 3000 out of the box, and learn any commands from the reciever remote that you may need.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

Ok, I'm aware of the AV-1 Av-2 command set issue. I've got the STR-DA4ES and its remote in AV-1 mode. Thats not the problem... the issue I'm having is with turning the friggen 4ES OFF with the system command buttons on the RM-AV2100.

I went through the same process as with my old reciever - programmed the AMP to be some non-sony device so I would get a POWER button to program, rather than a POWER ON and POWER OFF. I then proceeded to teach that POWER button the IR signal from the 4ES's own power key. I then programmed my system 3 macro for turning off the vcr, tv and 4ES reciever. I then reset the code for the AMP to be 001 for Sony.

Now, turning it all on with the macro stored in system1 works. All 3 components turn on.

Turning the 4ES on and off with the power button in the upper left of the AMP lcd display works. I can turn it on, I can turn it off.

However, the macro in system3 for off does not work. The vcr and tv turn off, and the 4ES turns off... but then turns right back ON AGAIN!. I can then select the AMP hardbutton, use the POWER button in the upper right and turn the amp off.

Does anyone have an idea why this is?

Seems odd that the very power button that works when pressed directly doesn't work when used in a macro.. Oy, vey! Who knows what the 2100 is doing. If it would allow you to TEACH the 2100 the signals to use for its PowerON and PowerOFF buttons, that would be nice, but you cannot do that, as I recall.

Just a thought, but, when the system is in AV-1 mode - does the power on, power off default functionality work with the 4ES? I just realized I may not have tried that state at all. The old STR-AV1020 from 1990 didn't work with the AV2100 so I used the trick to teach the 2100 the simple toggle type power command from the AV1020's remote. It could well be that the 4ES has discrete on and off understanding.... I'll try this when I get home.

Still, any feedback is appreciated.

Check out this thread. The writer had a problem with his tv, but the solution should also work for your receiver. I don't really understand what he did because I have never encountered the problem, but maybe it will help you. By the way, why would you post your question at the end of an 8 month old thread which didn't really relate to your problem? [Link: remotecentral.com]

Thanks for the tip.

I posted it here because the subject relates to my problem - an DA4ES and effectively the same remote in so far as this problem is concerned. It seemed silly to start another thread with basically the same subject.

I've solved the problem - my own bone head mistake.

I had set the POWER toggle because my old sony receiver did not have discrete on and off. Realizing the remote was preprogrammed for this the whole time....

I reset the programming for the amp -clearing all the pre-programmed buttons and learned items for the amp section, I set it for plain old Sony 001 (the reciever already in remote mode av1) and...

voila.. it works.

So, back to your regularly scheduled program.
