There is a sound mode in the Sony str-de685 called "AUTO DEC." Does anyone know what this mode does, becuase I have been trying to figure out if it is just like a virtual dolby type mode or something else.

Should automatically detect what format (PCM/Dolby Digital/DTS/ProLogic/Stereo/etc).

"auto dec" will also allow you to play 2 channel stereo with a sub. if you just went into "2 ch select" mode, the sub would be by-passed.

i have the DE-985 receiver so there may be some differences on remotes. i know there is the RM-PG411 (with my receiver) and also the RM-PP411, which may be your remote type. but the "auto dec" mode is the same for both.

The sub works with AUTO DEC selected? Mine didn't seem active. I'm hoping to hear the sub when watching normal programming off my satellite.
*EDIT* Nevermind... tried it this weekend and it does indeed kick in on AUTO DEC.

I never get Dolby Pro Logic on my DAV-C990 when it is set to Auto detect, is this normal? It will go into Dolby Digital and DTS.... To get Pro Logic I need to switch to the Dolby setting...
