Please help. I'm thinking of purchasing a remote to operate all of my components. My receiver is an older one. It is the STR-G3 from Sony. This receiver operates using an RF Egg remote that is not very user friendly. I have installed the necessary hack to allow me to use IR universal remote. My question is simple. Will the Sony RM-AV3000 remote operate the STR-G3 now that it can receive IR codes? If anybody has done this, or know whether it is compatible, please let me know. If not, which remote would you recommend for this receiver? Thanks in advance for your help.

Which hack? The internal circuit board from Sony (usually the IR receiver board from the version of your receiver that DIDN'T have VisionTouch), or something else such as the plug-in cable hack?

Please refer to this website for the hack that I performed [Link: web2.iadfw.net].

I have installed an IR detector module on the circuit board so that the receiver could receive IR signal from universal remote. I am hoping that this will work with the RM-AV3000, but I am assuming that since you are not aware of this hack, that you cannot tell me whether or not this will work. Thanks for your reply. If you can help or know of anyone that can, please let me know. Thanks. D Noah

The G3 must be different from "later" VisionTouch models, where the whole circuitry for IR reception/processing was missing (not merely the IR receiver). Since this is a real IR hack, the AV3000 should work (but some functions will still be missing).

which functions will be missing? Are you aware of any, or just not sure? Thanks again for your help with this.

Well, the point is the RM-AV3000 doesn't come with every single receiver function available. Every few generations Sony seems to add a bunch of functions and remove others. Just what will be available after your hack can only be found by trying...
