please help. I have an older receiver the STR-G3 which has the egg remote. I am thinking of using the hack to change to IR, but want to know what Universal remote would be best to operate all functions of my Sony receiver (STR-G3), Sony DVD player (RMT-D104A), Sony TV (RM-Y167), dish network receiver (not sure, but it is a 500 series basic model no PVR or anything. Please give me some advice and tell me what remote can control all devices I've listed. Some numbers are the remote numbers and not the actual device number. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Which hack are you talking about? There's only two, one involves adding another circuit board to the receiver (likely no longer available), the other involves building a special cable -- but to use that you must have a Pronto or something that can take Pronto hex codes.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I am talking about the first hack, which I just found out I cannot get the module through radio shack any longer. I am not sure what you mean by Pronto. I have not heard of that. I just want this thing to work with a regular remote, and hopefully work with a universal remote with all other equipment. Give me advice if you can. Thanks.

Hmm, the circuit board would have to be bought through Sony. The components for the demodulator cable could be bought from Radio Shack.
