Well, for about the 5th time, and now on the second one I've tried, the remote has locked up and lost all the programming I did. I think that there must be a bug in this model. They both kept locking up, maybe 5 times a day, requiring that a battery be removed to reset them. Usually it's ok, but once every 5 days or so, it loses everything, an hour of programming, gone. It locks up on hard keys and soft keys, but always on learned commands, of which I have many. That's why I bought it. Perhaps it will be good if you only need preprogrammed stuff. Anyway, it's going back.

I had the same symptoms with my remote. After reprogramming it 4 or 5 times I sent it back. I'm only in week number two with the replacement and am a little weary to fully program it again. So far so good.
My local Sony repair shop said that there are quite a few defective models out there - Sony will NEVER admit it though...
BTW , My problem was further complicated by the fact that I live Canada and purchased the remote from an American mail order company. It turns out that Sony Canada and Sony US have no corporate affiliation! Sony Canada would not honour the warranty but offered to repair (not replace) the remote for a fee. I took the remote to the same Sony authorized repair shop and they told me that it was un-repairable and that these malfunctioning remotes need to be replaced (which Sony Canada wouldn't do - catch 22). In the end I had to ship it back to the states and pay another $73 in duties and brokerage fees - not such a deal in the end...
It better work this time!
