I have been having trouble with finding a remote that works with my Motorola cable box. VL900 doesn't. VL700 does, but I am affraid it does not have the macro capability I want. Has anyone seen the component codes for the soon to be released RM-VL1000? Or does anyone know of a remote for about 8 components, with 10 or more macros that will operate a Motorola cable box? I am trying to stay in the $100 or less range.

Do you not have the original remote to learn from? Incidentally, Motorola = General Instruments = Jerrold.

Yes, I do have the original remote, but have been unable to get the Sony VL900 to learn the cable box codes from it. Thanks for the info regarding Jerrold and General Instruments. I will give that a try before returning the VL900.

Assuming the post above is correct that Motorola = Jerrold = Gen Instruments, I have had the same problem. The VL900 would not even learn from the original remote.

You must assign the Cbl/Sat button on your VL900 to Cable only. See page 32 in the manual.

Also, my Jerrold box works only with a Tocom code. (The remote is made by Tocom. Very confusing!)

This took hours to solve.
