I have a Curtis mathis Tv, Sony 550d DVD, Yamaha 795 AV receiver. None of the codes in book work. Nether does searching except for TV but it will turn tv off but not on. do i have a bad remote? Am I doing something wrong.

*Something* should work... make sure the component buttons you're entering the codes on do indeed match the type of device (ie. putting a CD code under the VCR device won't work, unless you tell the remote VCR is now a CD before entering).

I finally got it to work by searching then remote to remote for buttons i wanted. do have another question. My yahama receiver has power button that turns it on. but another button standbye that turns it off. can i progroam both buttons on my receiver to the one power button the the sony?

You can only do that if the AV2100 has such a code built-in. Otherwise, you'll need two buttons (check out the AV2100 review on this site -> user tips, which can help you put these commands on a "hidden" page for use in macros only).
