Is it just us or is this a poorly engineered remote? We received one with our Sony KV-32X96BRS Trinitron TV and then ordered another remote when the flip open lid on the first one broke off at the plastic hinge posts. After trying to fix them by placing tiny hinge pins in both remote lids (so we could use the buttons on the lid again), neither one works properly.

Any suggestions on a good replacement remote unit that will last?

As for the flip-lid, check if the little "nub" is still there to trigger the switch (that tells the remote it's in the down position).

Dear Pete,
Dear Pete,

I have two Sony remotes. One is the RM-Y114A, that came with the 32" XBR Squared, and the other is the RM-Y126 that I got from Sony as a second remote. Both control all PIP functions including Freeze and Replay.

They both have a multi-function track ball or rocker switch that controls video and audio settings.

I agree with you Pete that this remote is prone to door problems. The RM-Y126 is the direct replacement for the RMY-114A. The 114A has been discontinued. If you are looking to replace that one, then the 126 is decent, although not as comfortable to hold. If you are looking for the 114 to learn commands to your new AV-2100, then I could loan it to you to teach your new remote any and all the keys.

You can contact me at [email protected] if you are interested in this temporary loaner.

I need to correct something in my post ... the RM-Y128 was the replacement remote Sony recommended for the RMY-114A.
