Hi guys... I'm looking into buying the RM-AV2100 (actually, I'd be turning in Sony point from my credit card instead). My system is comprised of the following:
Magnavox TV
Panasonic VCR
Kenwood VR-407 receiver
Pioneer 301 disc changer
Scientific Atlanta digital cable box
...and a Microsoft XBox (will be added this fall, when it becomes available)

Do you think that this Sony remote would be a good choice for me? Some concerns I have are doing searches on artist name in my CD changer, and using the advanced menu options for my digital cable box. I know that the Sony remote is a learning remote, but how well will I be able to map the buttons? Also, how many commands can it learn?

Thanks!

Dear Larry,

I sent you an email with the Excel Template I made up for the AV-2100. It is quite useful in mapping out the locations of learned keys. If you do decide to purchase the remote, I am certain you will find it exceptionally flexible in handling all your components. The 2100 will learn and learn and learn some more. The memory is quite vast. The only real consideration you need to address is whether or not you're going to like a touch screen versus soft rubber buttons. I have my 2100 for about 2 months, and I really love the way it operates.

By the way, how many Citi Sony Card points is the AV-2100?

It's 18,000 points for the remote... however, if you buy it somewhere, you can redeem 100 Sony points per dollar spent, plus get triple points for your purchase. I found the remote at ecost.com for $92, which means that I'll spend 9200 points, but get 276 back, and net out only spending 8,924 points. Not bad, eh?
