Cool remote! unfortunately I bought it at circuit city for 179 before reading this most excellent site. My complaint--got to have all the curtains open and all the lights on, then pick it up and hold it in front of my face to read it. The LCD reads dim dim dim. Its ok if I leave the backlight on. Is this a faulty remote, or is this normal? Thank you kindly.

Mike,
Like with any LCD, it depends on the angle you're holding it at.
If I try to look at the screen straight on it seems to dissappear, but tilt it forward and Vwala...it's plain as day! It does seem to be most visible with the backlight and would it be really convenient if the backlight would automatically come on when the remote is picked up or you press one of the keys(other than the light key)...that issue has been discussed before with no apparent fixes yet.
Hope you like the remote otherwise...
Chris

Yes, I've noticed the same as Mike... try tilting the remote.

Mike: Yeah, like nearly all LCD displays, the 2100 needs to be viewed at a certain angle to be at it's best. I use the backlight a good bit. So far, the batteries seem to be holding up well.
I use a 2100 with my smaller system and in my other system, a Marantz 2000 MkII. While the Sony wouldn't work as well in my other system, I'm not tempted to change it for something else. The 2100 replaced a Home Theater Master SL-9000. NO comparison! The Sony wins hands down!

OK thanks for the responses, I guess I'll just learn to like it and quit trying to compare it with my LCD watch which I can read just fine without aids.

The AV2100's backlighting is excellent... you may find hitting the LIGHT button isn't that much of a problem.
