This is the simplified VL900 introduced at CES 2001.

Sony lists the RM-VL700 as a current product on its web site:

.. but I have not found it on the market. Any news on when it will be available to order?

Shortly (I'll probably find out next week). Even though it's $20 more, I still think the VL900 would be a bigger bargain -- the VL700 has 3 less devices, no macros and, it seems, a few less device buttons.

Looks ok, it does miss three buttons above VCR controls(below numbers), which I would miss, use them for menu commands in my replay TV and TIVO. VL900 is actually $39 right now, so unless this one will go even cheaper, I'd get VL900. But thanks for heads up.

By the way, Sony called me today. Their web page for the VL-700 is updated to show a $39.99 msrp, so retail should be around $20:

The caller said the retail ETA is "three weeks" from today (4/27/01).
