I recently got a sony RM-VL900 and it works great on my
mixed system with one exception; It won't work with my AIWA XD-DV370 DVD/CD player.

Here's my setup:

panasonic vcr - remote works fine
kenwood dts 5.1 amp - remote works fine
samsung tv - remote works fine
aiwa xd-dv370 dvd player - remote doesn't work at all

I have tried the search function several times to no avail. I've also called Sony and they were no help. I called AIWA too - they were less helpful than Sony, they told me to call the vendor (etronixs.com) who sent me to this site and have been very responsive. They said they'd take the unit back if I couldn't get it resolved, but my first choice is to make it work.

One problem is I don't have the AIWA remote any longer and replacing it would cost as much as half the component itself and more than I paid for the universal! Go figure.

Anyhow, I doubt having the original would solve the problem. The Aiwa was the only one of my four components that didn't have a code listed in the manual and my other three components work fine.

Soooo..... anyone have any codes I could try? Suggestions? Similar experiences? Thanks in advance.

How about finding a store with a demo unit of the DVD player (with remote) and bring in your remote and try to learn from the demo remote?

I just ordered the Sony VL900 and also have the Aiwa XD-DV370 DVD/MP3 Player. If this is a learning remote, what makes you think that having the original Aiwa remote wouldn't solve the problem ??

Just a guess. Of my four components the AIWA DVD player was the only one that did not have possible codes listed under the DVD section of the manual. Then the AIWA DVD player was the only only one of my four components that failed the 'search code' test as well. Is that a coincidence? I don't know. The third thing I can try is by going to some stores with my VL900 in my pocket (as Jason helpfully suggested above) and trying to 'learn'. I'm going to go this morning and I'll post tonight whether it was successful or not.

Greg:

Where do you live-- you could teach your VL900 the code with my AIWA DVD remote if you are in the DC area.

HEY DAVID! Your VL900 will work fine on the Aiwa XD-DV370. I went to the store where I bought the AIWA and they let me 'teach' my Sony remote and it worked great. By the way that AIWA will play .mp3's wonderfully. I can burn 200 songs on one cd and it sounds great.

Thanks for the offer David. I'm in Seattle, but I've got the problem solved. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

I also have the DV370, however, I have the RM-Y171 remote. I cannot get this remote to work with the aiwa DVD player. Who would have these codes? Thanks.
